Pieces of Culture

Plain and Simple,

Ever since the evolution or creation, whichever you choose to believe, of mankind, there have always been some form of art present in our environment. From old cave drawings dating back 32,000 years to the abstract form of art of today, people have left pieces of culture to the many generations to come. As Amy Lowell once said

"Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in."

But within art there are many sub-categories. Some people believe something is art while others may disagree. Even a pencil may be categorized as art to a person, I know it will be hard to find someone who actually thinks that a pencil is an art, but never doubt their existence. Many inventions are considered art to their creators.

So why Art you ask?

I came back from 8 hours of school and found a link sent to me by my friend Erkhemchuhal, better known as DORE (Amazing photographer, I recommend you look at his photography work here), so I followed the link, and amazingly I was moved by this certain video. I don't know whether it was the background music or the whole unified motion (No it was not the girl, I did not find her attractive), so without any further ado, I give you The Chinese Deaf Dance Team with their amazing choreography masterpiece, "The Thousand Hands of Buddha"

What's amazing is that all the dancers are deaf and are cued by people on the sides of the stage, yet they are able to perform with such accuracy that even people who are not deaf, let alone people who 'got rhythm' cannot do. This is one video that people must see...

Another form of dance that I found very 'Talk-Worthy" is Hardcore dancing (Don't let the name scare you). Many people see it and think "Are they High?" or "They look stupid!" but to the people who understand this form of dance considers it an art. There are many tutorials on YouTube.

Many Controversial forms of art, frowned upon by many, worshiped by few, exist. Just a few note-worthy examples include:
  • Marilyn Manson's Music is considered to be Evil by many but some people believe his music is a work of art.
  • The Hong-Kong Film "Dumplings" has been met with numerous controversies over its content which involve child-cannibalism
  • Pornography is also considered an art by creators and fans alike.
So, Plain and Simple, can we really say what is art and what is not? Are there specific outlines for something to be considered an art? or is it just personal opinion? Arguments are open... Leave what you think in the comments...

So until next time, Keep it Plain and Simple
